Disk wrinkling under gravity

چکیده
We study the deflection by gravity of a circular elastic disk deposited on rigid support. The axisymmetric induces compressive orthoradial stresses which leads to wrinkling instability above critical threshold dimensionless force. this combination experiments, numerical simulations and analytical tools, with particular focus role geometry. show that aspect ratio is crucial parameter controls both most unstable mode. influence can be caught introducing new nondimensionalization transverse load.

Wrinkling of Tympanic Membrane Under Unbalanced Pressure.
Mechanics of tympanic membrane (TM) is crucial for investigating the acoustic transmission through the ear. In this study, we studied the wrinkling behavior of tympanic membrane when it is exposed to mismatched air pressure between the ambient and the middle ear. The Rayleigh-Ritz method is adopted to analyze the critical wrinkling pressure and the fundamental eigenmode. An approximate analytic...
متن کاملTape-Disk Join Strategies under Disk Contention
Large-scale data warehousing, data mining, and scientific applications require the analysis of terabytes of facts data accumulated over long periods of time. Tape libraries are suitable devices for storing such mass data. The online analytical processing (OLAP) of this data typically leads to long-running aggregation queries joining the tape-resident facts relation with disk-resident dimension ...
متن کاملDiscretized Gravity on the Hyperbolic Disk
We consider discretized gravity in six dimensions, where the two extra dimensions have been compactified on a hyperbolic disk of constant curvature. We analyze a fine-grained realization of lattice gravity on the hyperbolic disk at the level of an effective field theory for massive gravitons. It is shown that a nonzero curvature or warping in radial direction allows to obtain a strong coupling ...
متن کاملCreasing-wrinkling transition in elastomer films under electric fields.
Creasing and wrinkling are different types of instabilities on material surfaces characterized by localized singular folds and continuously smooth undulation, respectively. While it is known that electric fields can induce both types of instabilities in elastomer films bonded on substrates, the relation and transition between the field-induced instabilities have not been analyzed or understood....
